Grey hairs, a softer belly, a body that isn't 25 anymore. Maybe it's time to question what we've been told about getting older.
You know that moment when you catch yourself in the mirror and think, When did that happen?
Maybe it's the grey in your beard. Maybe your belly has become a little rounder. Or you've found yourself looking at an old picture, wondering how you managed to feel insecure about a body you'd happily have back today.
It's strange, isn't it?
At 25, you worried about not being muscular enough. At 35, maybe it was the first signs of ageing. And now, somewhere past 40, you occasionally wonder whether you're still anyone's type.
Especially in a gay world that sometimes seems obsessed with staying young.
Dating apps don't exactly help. The age filters. The unanswered messages. The guy who proudly announces "no one over 35" while being 38 himself.
You laugh about it. But sometimes it gets to you.
Then Someone Tells You They Love Your Belly.
And you think they're joking.
Because you've spent years trying to get rid of it.
But they're not joking. They genuinely like it. The same goes for your hairy chest, your thick thighs or the grey creeping into your beard.
And suddenly, something doesn't quite add up.
You've been looking at these things as signs that you're becoming less attractive.
Yet here's someone who finds them incredibly sexy.
That's something many men discover in the bear community.
Not because bears are magically free from beauty standards. Trust us, they're not.
But because the idea of what's attractive can be wonderfully different.
A soft belly isn't necessarily something to hide. Body hair isn't something you need to remove. And a grey beard? For some guys, that's the whole point.
The body you've been apologising for might be exactly the body someone else is looking for.
Getting Older Still Isn't Always Easy.
Let's not pretend otherwise.
Some days, you miss your younger body. Dating can be frustrating. Sex can change. And finding confidence at 45 isn't necessarily any easier than finding it at 25.
The bear community has its own insecurities and its own unwritten rules about who's attractive.
But there's something worth remembering.
The guy who doesn't reply to your message isn't proof that you're too old. The younger man who isn't interested doesn't represent every man's preferences.
And you don't need to become a muscular daddy with a perfect beard to be desirable.
You can be hairy, soft, stocky, grey, somewhere in between.
You can still feel insecure about your body.
You can still want to change things.
None of that means you're past your prime.
Maybe You've Been Looking at Yourself Through the Wrong Eyes.
Think about the men you find attractive today.
Are they all 25?
Probably not.
Maybe there's a guy with a thick grey beard who makes you look twice. Or a broad, hairy man with a belly you'd love to get close to.
You don't see a collection of imperfections.
You see a man you're attracted to.
So here's a thought.
What if someone looks at you exactly the same way?
Not despite your age. Not despite your belly or your grey hairs.
But because those things are part of the man they find sexy.
You don't have to love getting older. You don't have to celebrate every wrinkle or pretend that ageing is always wonderful.
But perhaps you can stop assuming that every change makes you less attractive.
Because somewhere along the way, while you were busy missing the man you used to be, you became someone else's type.
And maybe it's time you gave that man a chance, too.
WEAR WHO YOU ARE.
